Dear Alumnus,

All professions especially the healthcare professions are in a constant state of self-assessment aimed at advancing their disciplines in a constant and measurable form. The dental profession is now faced with many challenges and questions. Chief among these is the equity issue, as those who are poor, disabled, aged, and living in rural areas or urban population with difficulty in accessing oral healthcare services. To some extent, the government is playing a key role through the plans like Danta Bhagya Yojane: A Flagship Programme of Government of Karnataka. Nevertheless, the goal is to improve and increase the efficiency in the healthcare system and ultimately enhance society as a whole.

I stress on all the budding dentists to maintain quality, latitude, and depth of dental science, to expand the scope to meet with newer demands based on science, patient needs, and periodic professional feedback. I also call on educators and students of all levels to get involved in the research activities. It is well known that research relies on scientific and academic innovation. By posing new ideas and suggesting alternative answers to medical and social questions, we aim to have evidence-based care and practice at the forefront of health delivery.

My dear Alumnus, I quote “Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, and determination. Do not work for recognition, but do work worthy of recognition”.

Wishing you all a very Happy, Peaceful and Successful year 2019!!!!
